World Muslim Beauty Contest Ends in Prayer, Tears, But Not Beheading

By Daniel Greenfield

Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola

That makes it a happy ending since it’s usually all three. But the World Muslimah beauty pageant, despite being meant as an alternative to Miss World, had most of the same ingredients, fake smiles, tacky clothes, dumb contestants and gallons of makeup.

But like most second-rate Muslim imitations of Western things, it compensated by being twice as vocal about Islam.

Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola of Nigeria waves in tears after being named World Muslimah 2013.

She tearfully prayed and recited Koranic verses as she won a beauty pageant exclusively for Muslim women in the Indonesian capital on Wednesday, a riposte to the Miss World contest that has sparked hardline anger.

The 20 finalists, who were all required to wear head scarves, put on a glittering show for the final of Muslimah World, strolling up and down a catwalk in elaborately embroidered dresses and stilettos. (Stilettos? Doesn’t seem very Islamic. –ed.)

But the contestants from six countries were covered from head to foot. They were judged on how well they recited Koranic verses and their views on Islam in the modern world.

See Muslims don’t have to accept Miss World. They can have Miss World with a Koran, combining modernity, stupidity and Islam….

  1. I wonder if the talent competition involved one of the contestants sewing together a suicide bomb vest.
