ISIS Is Following Established Islamic Jurisprudence

by ANDREW C. MCCARTHY

If you want to understand the challenge Western liberalism faces from Islamic supremacism, take six minutes to watch this extraordinary interview of Ayad Jamal al-Din, a Shiite cleric, Iraqi intellectual, and former member of the Iraqi parliament who campaigns for a democratic Iraq that separates mosque and state. Mr. al-Din was in Washington for the October 17 interview by al-Iraqiya TV in Iraq, and the interview with English subtitles (which I’ve reproduced as a transcript below) was publicized on Monday by the invaluable MEMRI (the Middle East Media Research Institute).

While President Obama, Secretary of State Kerry, and Prime Minister Cameron absurdly contend that the Islamic State, or ISIS, is not Islamic, al-Din – an authenticmoderate Muslim who regards the Islamic State as the enemy – patiently explains that the jihadist organization adheres to a firmly established interpretation of Islam that is based on sharia and fiqh (jurisprudence).

I have repeatedly argued that classical, mainstream sharia is repressive, discriminatory, and anti-democratic, and thus that it was self-defeating for the United States to sponsor new constitutions in Iraq and Afghanistan that attempted to meld Western democratic principles with sharia (see herehere, and here). It is especially gratifying to hear a passionate, articulate explanation of the incompatibility of Western democracy and Islamic jurisprudence from someone who reveres the former, is steeped in the latter, and understands the stakes.

Moreover, for those of us who frequently point out that mosques – which Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna described as the “axis” of his ideological movement in every city and town – are often centers for jihadist incitement, recruitment, training and fundraising, it is refreshing to hear someone intimately familiar with this phenomenon explain that there are mosques throughout the world directly and indirectly championing the Islamic State by glorifying jihad and the caliphate.

Our national security will not be well served until the United States government ends its futile search for “moderate Islamists” and realizes our allies in the Muslim community are the real moderates, meaning pro-Western democrats who reject the imposition of sharia on civil society. Supporting our enemies only undermines our friends….

Why Sam Harris Is Wrong about Islam

by Roger Kimball

….Let’s contrast the example and the teaching of Christ with the example and teaching of Mohammed. Christ is often denominated “the Prince of Peace.” He said things like “suffer the little children” to come to him.  And Mohammed? “He raided villages and towns,” Ali Sina points out,  and

massacred unarmed men, beheaded his captives, raped their women and sold them as slaves. His successors, the so-called “rightly guided Caliphs” and their successors did the same. These are the very things the Wahhabis advocate and Islamic State is doing.

As for Mohammed and little children, there is of course the story of Aisha, the youngest of Mohammed’s wives. She was married to Muhammad at the age of “six or seven”  but she stayed in her parents’ home until the age of “nine or ten.”

Yes, there are people who describe themselves as Muslim “reformers.” They do not want to go back to the original teachings of Muhammed — they look slightingly upon massacring unarmed men, shrink back from beheading folks, and want to have nothing to do with raping women or encouraging slavery.

But they also, Ali Sina points out, want to “acknowledge the legitimacy of Muhammad as a prophet of God.”

How do they manage that trick? “How,” Ali Sina asks, “can we tell people Muhammad was a true prophet, but don’t believe him – that his message was from God, but don’t follow it? Furthermore, isn’t it what the majority of Muslims already doing? Most Muslims don’t practice the violent parts of the Koran. As long as Islam is accepted as a true religion there will always be a minority who will want to practice it fully and honestly.”

Item: Yusra Hussein is a 15-year-old British Muslim of Somali origin. One day she just disappeared. The next thing her parents knew, there she was a “jihadi bride” who had gone to fight with Islamic State. “If it can happen to Yusra,” her aunt said, “it can happen to anyone. She was just a normal, young girl. She was a home girl. There was no anger, no frustration. We had no idea.”

Depressed yet?

“Thousands of young Muslims join Islamic State,” Ali Sina notes.

The great majority come from moderate Muslim families. It is easy to radicalize them. You ask them whether they believe in the Koran and they respond “yes.” Then you read it to them and show them that God enjoins jihad, that their parents who prefer this world to the next are hypocrites, and the Koran orders true believers to neither associate with the hypocrites nor take them as friends and guardians, even if they are fathers and brothers.

Kids understand this. It is a no-brainer. Their parents also understand it. But they want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to live in comfort and at the same time enter the Islamic paradise.

Telling the truth about Islam “offends” Muslims and their well-meaning supporters. But failing to tell the truth about Islam makes room for the Nidal Hasans of the world. Hasan was the Army psychiatrist who went on rampage at Ft. Hood, slaughtering 13 innocent people and injuring 30 others. He shouted “Allahu Akbar” — Allah is Great — while murdering those people and yet the Obama administration insisted that what the world witnessed was merely an instance of “workplace violence,” not an example of Islamic terrorism. “Oh but that’s just one example, one ‘violent extremist.’” What do you call the response to the Danish cartoons of Mohammed? How about the nightclub bombing in Bali? TheBoston marathon massacre? The “shoe bomber”? The “underwear bomber.” The perpetrators of 9/11? The attempt to sink the USS Cole? The London subway bombing? Et very much cetera.  It is all part of what what one U.S.-based Islamist cell called the “Grand Jihad,” which aims at “eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house . . . so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

Seems pretty clear, doesn’t it?  The important thing about Ali Sina’s article is its clear-eyed appreciation of some fundamental distinctions. “Islam is either from God or it isn’t. If it is then we have to accept it because that is what the Koran says. If we don’t, we should not complain when Muslims kill us. They are following the religion we acknowledged to be true. If Islam is not true, we better tell it fearlessly.”

Ali Sina ends with some good advice. I wish more Western pundits, to say nothing of Western politicians, would heed it. “Stop tiptoeing around lest you offend Muslims’ sensitivity. Take sides. . . .Truth hurts the delicate sensitivity of Muslims, but lies kill. Thousands are killed every day to uphold a lie. If this is not insanity what is?”

Good question.

Ben Shapiro: The Myth of the Tiny Radical Muslim Minority

Video: Houston Man Pledges Allegiance to ISIS in Front of Cop

BY RYAN MAURO

A shocking video has been posted online showing a Muslim-American in the Houston area pledging allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist group in front of a police officer while being escorted away from a mosque.

The video was uploaded September 21 by a man who goes by the names of Abdul-Rahman Baghdadi or Houston Baghdadi.

Baghdadi describes himself as an “Islamic Chaliphate [sic] State Fact Reporter” and identifies his locations as Houston, Las Vegas and Chicago on Twitter. He sent out a tweet describing himself as an “early student,” indicating that he may be a recent convert to Islam.

The video shows Baghdadi wearing pro-Islamic State attire at a mosque with a friend. The mosque is not specifically identified but is referred to by the acronym of “ISGH,” presumably the Islamic Society of Greater Houston.

The footage shows a police officer arriving at the mosque and a Muslim man complaining about Baghdadi. As he is escorted away, Baghdadi turns to his partner and requests, “In front of the police officers, will you please record this?”

He then raises his hand and pledges allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State terrorist group (more commonly known by the acronyms of ISIS or ISIL). The officer responds, “I don’t know what that means.”

“He’s the caliph of the Islamic State,” Baghdadi explains as the police officer walks away.

Baghdadi writes that the Muslim man in the footage “kicks me out constantly for NO REASON Even when I didn’t wear what I was wearing [the logo of the Islamic State].”

Another incident at the ISGH mosque was also recorded and uploaded. It shows an enraged man telling Baghdadi to never return to the premise and that he will be charged with trespassing if he does.

Baghdadi also uploaded a series of videos on October 12 showing a confrontation at the El-Farouq mosque in Houston. It begins when he approaches Muslim schoolchildren eating lunch and corrects them for eating with their left hand, a violation of sharia law. A man immediately intervenes and says he is calling the police. Baghdadi tells the cop that he was joking and meant no harm….

Judicial Watch: Four ISIS Terrorists Arrested in Texas in the Last 36 Hours

By Bryan Preston

Fort Bliss, near El Paso, may be their target.

Islamic terrorists have entered the United States through the Mexican border and Homeland Security sources tell Judicial Watch that four have been apprehended in the last 36 hours by federal authorities and the Texas Department of Public Safety in McAllen and Pharr.

JW confirmed this after California Congressman Duncan Hunter, a former Marine Corp Major and member of the House Armed Services Committee, disclosed on national television that at least ten Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) fighters have been caught crossing the Mexican border in Texas. The veteran lawmaker got the astounding intel straight from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Homeland Security agency responsible for guarding the 1,933-mile southern border.

“If you really want to protect Americans from ISIS, you secure the southern border,” Hunter proclaimed on a national cable news show this week. “It’s that simple. ISIS doesn’t have a navy, they don’t have an air force, they don’t have nuclear weapons. The only way that ISIS is going to harm Americans is by coming in through the southern border – which they already have.” The three-term congressmen went on: “They aren’t flying B-1 bombers, bombing American cities, but they are going to be bombing American cities coming across from Mexico.”…

Oklahoma Beheading: Have Our Prisons Become Jihad Factories?

by Roger L Simon

We don’t know details yet of the murder of a woman at Vaughan Foods — an Oklahoma distribution center —  by a co-worker, but we do know that it was a beheading and we do know the alleged suspect — Alton Nolen, 30 — was a new convert to Islam.

We also know that other workers at Vaughan say the suspect had tried to convert them to that religion….

….It’s not as if the Islamic extremist playbooks are a secret.  They are the basic texts of the religion itself, studied by all adherents in or outside prison, in large groups or by themselves.  These same texts call for the extermination or, at best, dhimmitude of the infidel who does not convert. So the behavior of the ummah is regulated across borders. You don’t have to be a card-carrying member of ISIL to know how to behead.  Anyone can do it.

This makes our prisons veritable training grounds — petri dishes, if you will — for fanatic killers of the type of the Oklahoma suspect, not to mention recruitment centers for whatever murderous Islamic sect happens to be in vogue that week or month.  The only difference between New York and Oklahoma prisons would be one of scale.

A Justice Department report criticized the prison system for “failing to protect against ‘infiltration by religious extremists’”.  But that report was way back in 2004.  The situation is unquestionably much worse now.

Furthermore,  the report exonerated “radical chaplains,” placing the blame on “extremist inmates running worship services.”  I’m skeptical. The entire system must be examined, including every chaplain.  The New York State system had a chaplain (Imam Warith Deen Umara) who praised the September 11 attacks. The Oklahoma beheading makes a complete public investigation mandatory.

The more difficult question, however, is what to do after the investigation, if the results are as they seem.  Banning Islam from our prisons for inciting violence might backfire in a way that would engender even more conversions.  Still, jihadism in it essence advocates the violent overthrow of the U.S. government, with which it is incompatible.  Should we allow such a thing inside prison?  The conventional answer is to seek out “moderate” Islamic chaplains to counter the extremists.  But where are such people and, more specifically, where have they been? Other than the extraordinary Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, the outspoken moderates are an extremely scarce commodity.

Nevertheless something must be done now to prevent our prisons form becoming Jihad Factories. They’re already more than halfway there.
